Nick Mallett
Mallet will part company with Western Province in December
Mallet turns down chance to coach Stormers

Former Springboks coach Nick Mallet has turned down the opportunity to coach the Stormers in next season's Super 14.
As a result the highly-regarded coach, currently Director of Rugby at Western Province, is set to part company with the franchise at the end of the year as part of a shake up of the coaching set up.

Pat Kühn, Chairman of WP Rugby (Pty) Ltd, confirmed that a decision was taken at today’s Board meeting to combine the WP Director of Rugby position with that of the position of Head Coach of the Vodacom Stormers.

However Mallet has previously said that he has no desire to coach in his homeland again and has stayed true to his word.

Commenting on the decision Mallet said; “I respect the decision of the Board, but given my position of not wanting to coach in South Africa, I will not be applying for the position.”

He will see out the duration of his contract with WP Rugby until the end of December 2007 and WP officials will advertise the new role in the meantime.

Mallet, who was in charge of South Africa between 1997 and 2000, is not likely to be short of coaching offers from abroad having tasted success in France where he led Stade Francais to league glory in 2003 and 2004.
