The Sharks have announced the signing of former Springbok and Sharks wing Stefan Terblanche for two months of the Currie Cup campaign.
He will spend July and August with the Sharks before heading back to the UK to continue his contract with Ospreys, having returned to Durban in the off-season, having spent the last three-and-a-half years enjoying a successful stint playing for The Ospreys in Wales, helping his team win the Celtic League in 2005 and 2007, as well as the Celtic League Cup in 2004.

He played wing and fullback for the Ospreys, scoring 16 tries and kicked a penalty and a drop-goal during his tenure there.

When he left the Sharks at the end of the 2003 season, he had accumulated 99 caps (34 in the Currie Cup and 65 Super 12), scoring a total of 52 tries (271 points in total) between 1998 and 2003.

He represented the Springboks in 37 Tests, scoring 19 tries after making his debut against Ireland in 1998.  In that match he equaled a South African test record of four tries on debut (variously achieved by Chester Williams and Pieter Roussow).  He later bettered this by scoring a then record 5 tries against Italy in 1999.

He won a Tri Nations winners' medal with the Springboks in 1998 and completed his Test career in 2003.

He originally signed for the Sharks from Boland where he holds the Boland record for most tries in a season (20 in 1997) and career tries (49).  In 1998, he was equal top try-scorer in the Super 12 with 10 tries when the Sharks made the semis of the tournament.

He admitted that ending his Sharks’ career on 99 caps, “I would dearly have loved to play 100. If you haven't actually played for the Sharks yourself, it is very hard to describe what it means and how enjoyable it is.

“It was probably the best decision I have ever made in my life to come to Durban. Every time I watch the Sharks play nowadays I am very jealous of the players. It is a nice jealousy in that I want them to do well, but I also miss running out at the stadium on a warm winter's afternoon.

"Playing for the Sharks is not just about the rugby, but the lifestyle and the whole KZN experience, so it’s great to be back here in Durban.  When you haven’t lived here you really miss it.  I am looking forward to being part of the Sharks again and helping out during the Currie Cup.”
