Chavhanga scored after just 48 seconds to set the tone for the night, as the visitors used their speed out wide to good effect.
Drew Mitchell broke his 2008 drought when he finished brilliantly, and after a Matt Giteau penalty the home side lead 8-7.
From that point on it the Stormers dominated the scoreboard, as Chavhanga, Jean De Villiers and Brok Harris dotted down to open a 32-11 lead.
Ryan Cross scored a late consolation try to reduce the margin to 32-16.
The Stormers stunned the hosts with a score within a minute when Chavhanga got on the end of a probing kick from Conrad Jantjes to notch the first of his two tries.
Peter Grant added the conversion to put the visitors in the driving seat but the Force battled back into the game with their opening try from Mitchell.
Matt Giteau once again orchestrated the opening that led to Mitchell dotting down and the Force flyhalf edged his side ahead with a penalty a few minutes later when the Stormers' Schalk Burger was penalised for a high tackle.
Midway through the half the Stormers' physical dominance brought further reward when Giteau missed a tackle on Grant who provided Chavhanga with the scoring pass.
Grant added the extras once again before stretching his side's lead with a further penalty.
Another dangerous tackle from Burger saw him sent to the sin-bin with the half drawing to a close and Giteau's boot reduced the arrears.
However the Stormers held their own and Grant slotted another penalty just before half-time to ensure his side went into the 20-11 ahead.
The Force continued to commit basic errors and Grant missed three opportunites to make them pay and put the result in doubt.
Instead it was De Villiers who provided the first score of the second half when he intercepted a pass before racing away to score.
Grant's conversion was soon followed by another try when Harris rumbled over for a try.
Cross' late score was only a consolation for the Force and skipper Nathan Sharpe who was making his 100th appearance for the side.
The Force will look to resurrect their push for the semi-finals when they play host to the Bulls next week while the resurgent Stormers return home from their successful tour to face the Cheetahs.
