ASB Community Trust is to make a $6.5 million grant toward the rebuild of Eden Park in Auckland in time for the 2011 rugby World Cup.
"By investing in this infrastructure the trust has an expectation that Eden Park be available for a wider range of sports and that women's sports should be able to be played there too," trust chief executive Jennifer Gill said today.

The trust has supported developments at Eden Park since 1998, when it granted $2.2m to help build the north stand and floodlights.

The upgrade of Eden Park for the World Cup took a step forward yesterday with resource consent being granted for a new south stand.

The upgrade is expected to cost about $240 million.
