Scotland Under-21 captain Neil Cochrane is revelling in his sides triumph over Wales last night in the IRB Under 21 World Championship but the flanker is keeping his feet on the ground as there is still much to be done.
Scotland bounced back from a 24-8 defeat at the hands of the Welsh in the pool stages of the championship in Mendoza, Argentina to beat them 43-25 last night in the semi-finals of the fifth-to-eighth play-off.
On victory Cochrane said modestly: Perhaps it was third time lucky!
However, there is no doubt that there was more to the triumph than merely luck. He continued: The result we wanted was coming. The guys worked hard for the win and they deserve it after the Six Nations and last weeks game. There was a real hunger in the squad.
We have done a lot of analysis work with Shade Munro, who has been excellent for us out here. That helps us pin-point other sides weaknesses and also lets us see how we have played.
Our defence was key for us last night as we didnt let them run at us like they have done in the past. Wales are formidable opposition but we stuck to our guns and came away with the right result, he added.
Scotland take on hosts Argentina on Saturday to determine fifth and sixth place. No matter what the outcome of that match, the Scots know they will finish the highest out of the four home nations. Last year, when the tournament was held in Edinburgh, Glasgow and the Borders, Scotland finished tenth overall.
Cochrane looked ahead to Saturdays match. He said: Theres no better game is there? Playing the hosts in the final match is great and the boys are delighted. Were really looking forward to it and itll be another chance to show everyone that Scottish rugby is on the up!
