The Canadians provided a stiff test in the opening half at Twin Elm Rugby Park - but the Scots came through as their hosts tired after the break.

Calum MacRae put the seal on victory with a fourth Scottish try in the final minute of normal time.

Canada drew first blotod when James Pritchard landed a penalty after seven minutes.

The Scots settled and pieced together some good moves, but it was not until eight minutes before the interval that they finally got on the scoreboard.

Roland Reid offloaded smartly in a tackle, and Newcastle fly-half Jones - starting at full-back - was on hand to finish in the corner.

Ander Monro failed with a chance to put Canada back ahead via a penalty before the interval, and Scotland also had a try chalked off by the video referee.

The Scots took firm control early in the second half when Jones found space and raced in for his second try.

Jones could have claimed his hat-trick earlier than he did, after breaking clear and then kicking forward - only for Dean van Camp to clear.

Jones eventually put the result beyond doubt when when he touched down out wide with seven minutes remaining.

MacRae added another in the final minute, and Justin Mensah-Coker's effort in injury time was no more than consolation.
