Reds fullback Chris Latham is on his way to the Guinness Premiership
Injury denies Latham Reds send-off

A shoulder injury to QR Reds fullback Chris Latham has ruled him out of next Saturday's Investec Super 14 match against the Waratahs at Suncorp Stadium.
Latham was forced off the field 13 minutes into last night’s match against the Crusaders after injuring himself in a tackle. Head Coach Phil Mooney said the injury to Latham’s pectoral muscle meant he had played his last game in a Queensland jersey.

Latham is due to take up a contract overseas at the end of the season, having played 99 Super Rugby games for his state and 119 games in total for Queensland.

“That’s the end of one of the greatest careers in the Queensland jersey. Unfortunately not everyone gets the fairytale send-off,” Mooney said after the match.

“What he’s done for Queensland over an extended period of time puts him up there amongst the greatest ever to wear the Red jersey.”

It’s not yet known how long Latham will be sidelined as he is awaiting the results of scans on his injury.

Mooney said today all other players from last night’s match were expected to be fit for selection against the Waratahs. Prop Rodney Blake will also be eligible for selection after serving a one week suspension for a dangerous tackle.

Mooney said injured players Sam Cordingley (calf), Hugh McMeniman (ankle) and Greg Holmes (knee) were only a 50-50 chance of being fit to play against the Waratahs.

The Reds put up a brave showing against the Crusaders in front of a crowd of 21,768 at Suncorp Stadium but were run over in the final minutes 27-21 after losing two players to the sinbin with yellow cards.

Scrumhalf Ben Lucas was carded for a professional foul only minutes after wing Digby Ioane had been sidelined for a dangerous tackle. Ioane was later cited and will face a SANZAR judicial officer in Brisbane on Monday night.
