Latham is due to take up a contract overseas at the end of the season, having played 99 Super Rugby games for his state and 119 games in total for Queensland.

“That’s the end of one of the greatest careers in the Queensland jersey. Unfortunately not everyone gets the fairytale send-off,” Mooney said after the match.

“What he’s done for Queensland over an extended period of time puts him up there amongst the greatest ever to wear the Red jersey.”

It’s not yet known how long Latham will be sidelined as he is awaiting the results of scans on his injury.

Mooney said today all other players from last night’s match were expected to be fit for selection against the Waratahs. Prop Rodney Blake will also be eligible for selection after serving a one week suspension for a dangerous tackle.

Mooney said injured players Sam Cordingley (calf), Hugh McMeniman (ankle) and Greg Holmes (knee) were only a 50-50 chance of being fit to play against the Waratahs.
