Behind Varndell and his 13 tries was Bath wing Matt Banahan, who surprised many this season with his physicality and pace.
Not many saw the ex-London Irish academy player challenging for the top try-scorer title at the start of the season but the Jersey born wing, who was originally signed by Bath as a lock, has had an outstanding debut campaign, returning 10 tries and earning himself a call up to the England Saxons squad to tour the USA and Canada this Summer.
Lesley Vainikolo made his code switch from Bradford Bulls and after five tries in his first Premiership match for Gloucester against Leeds he has added just four more during the rest of the season.
The two other players that joined Vainikolo on nine tries were fellow Gloucester wing, James Simpson-Daniel, and Miles Benjamin of Worcester.
Benjamin has come through on the rails as the Solihull speedster had not made a league start in a Worcester jersey until he appeared against Newcastle on January 6 and began a fine run of nine tries in 13 appearances.
