Ireland's appeal against the three-week suspension handed to flanker Alan Quinlan for stamping has been rejected.

Quinlan was given the ban for an incident involving All Black number eight Rodney So'oialo during the first half of last Saturday's 22-3 defeat at Croke Park. An appeal committee appointed by the International Rugby Board met in Dublin to hear the case but decided the original punishment should stand.

The 34-year-old Munster back row had been earmarked for bench duty when Ireland meet Argentina tomorrow, pending a successful appeal, but must now wait until December 7 for his return.

Provincial team-mate Donnacha Ryan has been drafted into the replacements as cover.
