The semi-final line-up for this year's Currie Cup has been confirmed following the final round of league action.

The Lions will face the Sharks in the first semi-final at the Absa Stadium in Durban while the Blue Bulls will play host to the Free State Cheetahs in the second clash at Loftus Versfeld in Pretoria.

Already assured of a home tie in the last four the Sharks opted against resting any key personnel and as a result notched a thumping 62-12 victory over the Griquas. Keegan Daniel grabbed a hat-trick of tries and in doing so became the most prolific tryscorer in this year's competition.

Elsewhere JP Pietersen notched a brace while Francois Steyn, Albert van den Berg, John Smit, Jacques Botes and Odwa Ndungane also touched down. Their semi-final opponents the Lions held onto their play-off berth despite a 14-6 defeat to fifth-placed Western Province who required a big bonus point victory to extend their season.

Meanwhile an under-strength Blue Bulls side, also already assured of a home semi-final, warmed up for the semi-finals with a narrow 22-20 victory over bottom-of-the-table Valke. Free State Cheetahs set up a semi-final showdown with the Blue Bulls following a high-scoring 50-40 victory over the Boland Cavaliers. The defending champions kept their hopes of retaining the trophy alive by outscoring their rivals seven tries to six with Springboks flanker Juan Smith grabbing two for the Cheetahs.

The first leg of the home-and-away promotion-relegation matches will take place on 18 October, with the Leopards up against the Valke, and fellow Division 1 side the Griffons taking on the Cavaliers for two spots in next year's Premier Division.
